Inversion in English

Inversion means putting an auxiliary verb before the subject of a clause. In formal English, we use inversion after certain expressions that indicate a limit, such as 'no sooner', 'hardly', 'rarely', 'seldom', 'little', 'under no circumstances', 'not only', and 'only when'. The pattern is: auxiliary verb + subject.
